Tundra Log

About Tundra Log

Tundra Log began as a shared notebook. Three of us — a photographer, an ecologist and a long-distance walker — kept crossing paths in the same cold places and comparing notes over worse coffee than we care to admit. Eventually we started writing it down.

This is a small, independent blog about the circumpolar North: the tundra and its ecology, permafrost and the changing ground, the aurora, Arctic wildlife, and the long tradition of living with reindeer. We write from the field, in plain language, for anyone curious about these landscapes — whether you plan to visit them or simply like to read about them.

The pen names

Mara Holt writes about places and journeys. Eirik Sund covers ecology, wildlife and the science of cold ground. Noor Lindqvist handles photography, the aurora and the practical craft of travelling in the cold. They are pen names; the people behind them prefer the work to speak for itself.

About the photographs

We travel light and do not always come home with the shot. Where our own images fall short we use freely licensed photographs from public archives, always credited on our credits page. All written content here is original.
